An electric motor or generator comprising a stator 253 with at least one coil winding, wherein the stator includes a first surface having a section 501 of the at least one coil winding extending in a direction away from the first surface, and a control module 400 having a housing 550 with a first side that is arranged to be mounted to the first surface of the stator, wherein the housing includes a Hall sensor for detecting current flow, and a control device (520 fig 7) for controlling current flow in the at least one coil winding based upon the current flow detected by the sensor, wherein the section 501 of the at least one coil winding that is arranged to extend away from the first surface is arranged to extend through an aperture 610 formed on the first side of the housing for coupling to the control device, wherein the first element is mounted in the housing adjacent to the aperture. Apertured posts 610 though which the winding leads 501 pass from the stator are surrounded by part electrical steel toroids 530 which are recessed level with the bottom of the housing, Hall sensors on the power module being received in the missing toroid sections. |
