<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film having a large gradient structure of the phase difference and high homogeneity of optical characteristics, and to provide a manufacturing method of the film. <P>SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the film includes: the process of melt-extruding a composition, comprising a thermoplastic resin, from a die; and the process of continuously sandwiching and pressing the melt-extruded molten composition between first and second sandwiching-and-pressing surfaces of a sandwiching-and-pressing device to form the composition into a filmy molten material. A pressure of 5-1,000 MPa is applied to the central part of the filmy molten material in the width direction by the sandwiching-and-pressing device. The filmy molten material is sandwiched and pressed while a part of the filmy molten material 50-500 mm from at least one end is kept in noncontact with at least one of the first and second sandwiching-and-pressing surfaces of the sandwiching-and-pressing device, and the moving speed of the first sandwiching-and-pressing surface is faster than that of the second sandwiching-and-pressing surface. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
