The present invention relates to an image display device and an operating method thereof. The method for operating the image display device according to the present invention comprises the following steps of: entering a program watching state viewing mode; receiving program watching state information of multiple users; displaying each indicator representing the multiple users on a progress bar based on the program watching state information of the users; receiving input of selecting one from the displayed multiple indicators; and converting to a watching state corresponding the selected indicator, and displaying an image corresponding to the watching state.
