Image processing system to estimate noise level and to enhance image adaptively, and the method thereof

An image processing system and a method thereof for adaptively processing an image by estimating the noise power of image are provided to improve the picture quality of the image in the noise environment by processing the image according to the presumed noise. A local block STD(Standard Deviation) estimation unit(11) outputs a local STD from an inputted image composing a plurality of block images. A feature and noise detection unit(13) save the image about each block image or feature and noise deciding value showing the relative size of the noise. A weighted average unit produces the noise standard deviation of the input image.
