734.602. Copy-turning. BRANDENBERGER, H. Oct. 17, 1952, No. 26116/52. Class 83 (3). Copy-turning mechanism comprises a carriage, movable longitudinally of the work, carrying two levers having their axes spaced a fixed distance apart and one of which is operatively connected to a cam to be moved in accordance with the cam profile, an adjustable member being mounted between the levers to transmit the movement of the cam-operated lever with variable ratio to the second lever, a tool slide movable relatively to the carriage carrying a pivotally mounted tool-holder, the position of which is adjustable in accordance with the diameter of the work, and means operatively connecting the second lever to the tool-holder. The cam 4 for controlling the tool 17 slides along a splined shaft 2 with the tool carriage 3. Movement is transmitted from the cam 4 by a roller 6 on a lever 5 pivoted to the carriage at 7. A fucrum-shoe 8 is adjustable along the upper side of the lever 5 and engages one arm of a double-armed lever 9 pivoted at 10. The other arm of this lever carries an oscillatable nut 18 which engages the threaded end of a rod 12 connected to a lever tool-rest 15. Springs 19, 20 are interposed in the mechanism to keep the parts in contact and take up backlash. A roughing tool and a finishing tool, acting simultaneously on longitudinal movement of the carriage, may be employed. In an alternative tool arrangement the inside and outside diameters of a hollow workpiece are turned simultaneously. The mechanism is applicable to turning piston rings. Specification 710,887 is referred to.
|
