A communications system comprising base stations and remote terminal units has a communication manager that is configured to define and manage one or more adjustable communication links for efficient bandwidth utilization. The communications manager has means for adjusting the latency of any communication link such that the data transfer rate and latency is guaranteed for at least one of the communication links. The number of communication links can be increased without impacting on data rate, latency guarantee or spectral efficiency of the communication links. The system may employ a time divided OFDM scheme and may be used to control robots in a factory or warehouse management system. |
