The purpose of the present invention is to remove a mechanical button to control an existing sleep mode and to automatically enter or release a sleep mode by detecting vibrations due to an impact applied to a terminal. Provided is a terminal device which comprises: a sensor unit for detecting vibrations due to the impact applied from the outside; and a control unit for determining whether the vibrations are a tapping signal when the vibrations are detected, sending a vibration detection notification request to an output unit when the vibrations are the tapping signal and maintaining the sleep mode when the vibrations are not a tapping signal, and automatically releasing the sleep mode according to the occurrence of a second tapping signal after the tapping signal. Also, a method for the same is provided. |
