The invention relates to a paint roller apparatus configured to apply paint to a surface, the apparatus comprising: a roller arm; a paint roller rotatably mounted on the roller arm about a roller axis, the paint roller having an end and a paint applicator surface; and a roller guard having an arm attached to a head with at least one painting feature for applying paint to the surface, the roller guard being selectively movable between first and second positions, the first position comprising the painting feature disposed adjacent the end of the roller in a first orientation on a first side of the roller axis and the second position comprising the painting feature disposed adjacent the end of the roller in a second orientation on a second side of the roller axis.
