Binder for holding oil, solvents and other toxic fluids based on bark chips and other organic waste materials having at least partially disrupted cells, comprises 60-90 wt.%, preferably 80 wt.% conifer bark, and 40-10 wt.%, preferably 20 wt.% a grainy plant waste product, preferably grapes, marc after burning or crushed corncobs after removing grains. An independent claim is also included for preparing the above binder, comprising coarsely crushing the conifer bark waste to a particle size of 10-30 mm, mixing the coarsely crushed conifer bark with natural, moist and granular plant waste material, drying the obtained mixture to a moisture content of 10-12%, and further crushing the dried waste in a hammer mill to a particle size of 1-5 mm.
