The present invention provides methods for the preparation of substituted 2,3,4,4a,5,9b-hexahydro-1H-pyrido[4,3-b]indole derivative useful as intermediates and methods for producing and using such intermediates.

A method for preparing a compound of Formula 2C: wherein:(i) k is 1;(ii) m is 1;(iii) A is Cl, Br, F or I;(iv) R5 is H;(v) R7, R8 and R9 are H,in free base or acid addition salt form, comprising the steps of:a) converting a compound of Formula 2Ain free base or acid addition salt form, to a compound of Formula 2Bin free base or acid addition salt form, wherein k, m, A, R5, R7, R8 and R9 are as hereinbefore described in Formula 2C; andb) resolving the compound of Formula 2B by chiral acid resolution or chiral chromatography.
