PURPOSE: An air conditioner for a vehicle and a control method thereof are provided to maintain optimal dehumidifying performance and a pleasant air condition of a vehicle interior regardless of air volume control per a user. CONSTITUTION: An air conditioner for a vehicle and a control method thereof comprise an air blast unit, a case, an evaporator, a heater core, a dehumidifying rotor, and a control unit. The dehumidifying rotor is rotatably installed within an air path between the air blast unit and the evaporator and dehumidifies air flowing in the air path. The control unit is installed in order to control a blower and the dehumidifying rotor and variably controls a rotation number of the dehumidifying rotor according to a driving rotation number of the blower.
