The objective of the present invention is to provide a medium transferring system for an automatic teller machine, capable of solving a drawback in that dusts are accumulated on a prism in a medium transferring unit and preventing degradation of sensitivity of a sensor unit. For realizing this, a medium transferring unit comprises: a conveyance route which guides the movement of a paper medium; and a sensor unit including a light emitting unit for emitting light so as to sense the position of the medium passing through the conveyance route, a prism for reflecting the light of the light emitting unit, and a light receiving unit for receiving the light reflected from the prism. In the medium transferring unit, a prism insertion groove having the same depth as the height of the prism is formed in the conveyance route. When the prism is mounted inside the prism insertion groove, the upper surface of the prism and the upper surface of the conveyance route disposed adjacent to the prism are disposed at the same height. The edge of the upper surface of the prism and the upper end of the inner wall of the prism insertion grove have an outwardly convex shape.
