Disclosed is a method for controlling an engine of a range extender electric vehicle which can improve battery charging efficiency and can extend battery life by controlling the startup of the engine while braking the vehicle. The method for controlling an engine of a range extender electric vehicle comprises the following steps of: (a) operating an engine/generator when a vehicle driving mode is an engine/generator charging mode (RE mode); (b) checking whether a braking signal is generated while driving the vehicle; and (c) controlling the operation of the engine/generator and the battery charging depending on whether a braking signal is generated, which was checked in step (b). |
