Disclosed are a method for updating an electric control unit and an electric control unit to which the method can be applied. A method for updating an electric control unit includes the steps of: checking a default setting boot loader designated as a default setting value for booting the electric device; comparing a version of a downloadable boot loader with a version of the default setting boot loader to determine whether to download the downloadable boot loader; storing the downloadable boot loader in a second boot loader region differentiated from a first boot loader in which the default setting boot loader is stored, when the downloadable boot loader is determined to be downloaded; and setting the downloadable boot loader as a new default setting boot loader. |
