The seat (1) has a backrest (3) including a locking mechanism for locking the backrest in a use position and a folded back position. The locking mechanism is arranged to be activated by setting the backrest in one of the two positions. The mechanism is connected to an actionable control unit by a user so as to deactivate the mechanism in order to carry out rotation of the backrest. The mechanism remains deactivated when the backrest is in the course of being folding back. A detection device (5) detects the deactivation of the mechanism.
