<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer device which prevents a transfer failure in a lateral end part of a recording medium during a secondary transfer process, which occurs when a secondary transfer current flows from a paper-passing part to a non-paper-passing part bypassing the lateral end part of the recording medium.SOLUTION: A transfer device includes: a primary transfer roll which primarily transfers a toner image on an image holding body to an intermediate transfer belt; and a secondary transfer device which forms a secondary transfer electric field between a back-up roll and a secondary transfer belt, to secondarily transfer the toner image on the intermediate transfer belt to a recording sheet. Effective resistance values of members in a paper-passing part and a non-paper-passing part in a secondary transfer nip to be obtained when a secondary transfer voltage is applied satisfy the following expression (1): an effective resistance value of the secondary transfer belt<an effective resistance value of the back-up roll<an effective resistance value of the intermediate transfer belt, thereby preventing a transfer failure in a lateral end part of the recording sheet 115.</p> |
