PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document reading device that quickly displays a preview to improve convenience.SOLUTION: A document reading unit 2 reads images of a document and outputs scanned image data 90 for every page. A direction detection unit 14 detects a direction of the document from the scanned image data 90 and creates image direction data 91. A control unit 8 creates preview data 92 for finish browsing from the image data according to the direction of the document. The control unit 8 does not rotate the scanned image data 90 in creating the preview data 92. The control unit 8 creates scan files 93 such as a searchable PDF that is subjected to optical character recognition by a character recognition unit 15. The control unit 8 does not rotate the scanned image data 90 with the use of the image direction data 91 before the creation of the scan files 93.
