A method is provided which includes identifying a posture of a user's hand; tracking the user's hand through the sequence of images; deriving a motion path of the user's hand; determining a character based on the derived motion path; and controlling a device based on the determined character and based on the identification of the posture. A motion path of the user's hand may be determined based on machine learning techniques trained on a database of motion path features.
