The method involves determining an actual articulation angle (15) of a trailer (11) relative to a towing vehicle (10). The towing vehicle is revered at a predetermined target trajectory with active steering assistance until a fixation point is set on the target trajectory for ranking the direction of travel with the trailer. The direction of travel corresponds to the fixation point. Maneuvering of the towing vehicle is performed with the active steering assistance while maintaining predetermined direction of travel up to a final parking position. An independent claim is also included for a trailer ranking assistant.
