PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novolac resin (novolac type phenolic resin) having good flexibility, heat resistance, solubility and the like and suitable to be used for various purposes, and to provide usage of the resin.SOLUTION: The novolac resin is expressed by general formula (1). The novolac resin can be suitably used as a raw material of an epoxidized novolac resin by using characteristics of the novolac resin. An epoxy resin composition having excellent heat resistance and solubility, a cured product of the composition, and a laminate plate having a matrix resin formed of the composition can be suitably obtained by using the novolac resin or epoxidized novolac. Further, by using the novolac resin as an alkali-soluble resin, a photoresist composition having improved flexibility can be suitably obtained. |
