PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonlinear optical active copolymer capable of suppressing orientation relaxation of a nonlinear optical material and having high durability against various solvents, and to provide a nonlinear optical material obtained by using the copolymer.SOLUTION: The nonlinear optical active copolymer comprises, in the same molecule: a repeating unit (A) expressed by formula [1] having an isocyanate group protected by a blocking agent; and a repeating unit (B) expressed by formula [2] having a nonlinear optical active moiety. The nonlinear optical material is obtained by using the above copolymer. In the formulae, Rand Reach independently represent a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; Land Leach independently represent a divalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 30 carbon atoms which may include an ether bond and/or an ester bond; Y represents an isocyanate group protected by a blocking agent; and Z represents an atomic group developing nonlinear optical activity. |
