An embodiment of the present invention relates to a terminal which can be easily controlled by a user and a control method thereof. The provided terminal includes: a button; a touchscreen which receives a touch input from the outside and displays a screen; and a control unit which controls the screen displayed on the touchscreen according to the received touch input and whether the button is pressed or not. The control unit displays a control area smaller than the touchscreen upon detecting that the button is pressed or released after being pressed. When a touch input is received on a first point in the control area of the control unit, the control unit executes the same operation as an operation being executed when a touch input is received on a second point corresponding to the first point in the entire area of the touchscreen.
