741,951. Statistical apparatus. COPELAND, CHATTERSON CO., Ltd., and MANN, O. Jan. 29, 1954 [Feb. 13, 1953], No. 4141/53. Class 106 (1). Statistical record cards of the type having perforations adjacent to one or more of its edges adapted to be opened out so as to enable sorting to take place by means of rods, are sorted in the apparatus shown in Fig. 1 by means of such sorting rods and mechanical agitation which ensures that the required cards fall away from the pack. The cards are supported on a removable plate 12 accommodated in slots in the side members 1, 2, while the sorting rods 17 are passed through the cards and the perforated plate 14. The other end of the sorting rods 17 rests on a notched plate 13. The plate 12 is removed and sorting takes place when the wanted cards, i.e. those with the data representing holes opened out, fall away from the pack. To assist the sorting operation a reciprocating motion is given to the members 13, 14 by means of eccentrics mounted on the rod 28 which is driven by a suitable crank or electric motor. A brush 34 is also provided to bear down on the tops of the cards during agitation and assist the segregation of the wanted cards. |
