The invention concerns an apparatus and a method for guiding multi-diameter cables onto a drum (200) by means of a cable guide device. The cable guide device (100) comprising a guiding means (1) translationally moveable along a linear actuator (5), wherein the guiding means (1) has an opening with a minimum spacing (dr) in direction along the orientation of the linear actuator (5) that is larger than the maximum cross-section of the cable (9,9') to be guided inside the guiding means opening, and wherein a cable (9) during use is most of its operational time contacting at least one of at least two barriers (3, 4), which barriers (3, 4) constitute at least part of the confinement of the opening in the orientation of the linear actuator (5). The cable guide is configured to perform sequential steps for each complete winding period to ensure rapid contact recuperation after loss or near loss of cable contact on one or more of the barriers (3, 4). |
