The method involves of determining information that indicates a distance between a human body part and a reference, where the body part is recognized by a control unit (108). Another information indicating a transformation ratio between a gestual movement of the body part and an effected change of a control parameter by the gestual movement is determined based on the former information. The ratio is modified based on a change of the distance between the body part and the reference. Visual information indicating a current value of control parameter setting is displayed on a display (110). The display is designed as a picture screen. The human body part is hand or finger. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling a control parameter of a control element.
