The electromagnetically driven reciprocating piston pump (1) has an electromagnetic drive, where the cut-off frequency of the electromagnetic drive is increased by provision of an electric current in comparison to a voltage-controlled drive. The natural frequencies of one and another control valves (11,12) are set adjacent to the cut-off frequency of the electromagnetic drive by a sufficiently large mass of one or both of moving sealing elements (20) and a sufficiently low spring constant of one or two restoring springs (21). An independent claim is included for a method for operating a reciprocating piston pump.
