PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an olefin, capable of giving a target olefin at a high yield.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for producing an olefin, conducting a decarbonylation reaction of a carboxylic acid having aβhydrogen atom or a derivative thereof, in the presence of a catalyst comprising at least one metal element selected from the group consisting of Group 8 metals, Group 9 metals, and Group 10 metals, iodine element, and a phosphine compound represented by formula (1). The phosphine compound has a steric parameter and an electronic parameter (θ,ν) within a triangle whose three vertices are (143, 2071), (143, 2078), and (200, 2063), in Tolman's steric parameter/electronic parameter map. |
