An apparatus for executing a task includes an interface that interacts with a user, an authenticator that verifies the user's credentials, a controller that receives data from the interface and provides data to the interface, at least one application that is capable of being registered to the controller and that receives data from the controller, executes a task, and provides data to the controller, and an authorizer that ensures that the user has access to the at least one application to execute the task to be executed. The verification may be performed over a distributed network. Methods for executing tasks and for providing a user access to tasks are also described and claimed.
