A fuel cell system (100) has a fuel cell (101) and an electrolysis cell (119) , whereby the electrolysis cell has an air cathode (121) and is connected to the fuel cell. The fuel cell and the electrolysis cell are configured so that the power demand of the electrolysis cell is covered by the power output of the fuel cell. An independent claim is also included for an aircraft with a fuel cell system.
