A portable terminal and a method for converting function in the state change of the portable terminal are provided to control the scan period of the wireless communications unit and the screen illumination brightness of a display unit and to minimize the power consumption of the portable terminal. The physical change which is generated in a portable terminal while executing a first menu is sensed(S303). A predetermined base value is extracted and is converted into current base value when generation of physical change(S307). The base value includes at least one of screen brightness, screen lightning time and a scan period. A first menu is converted into a second menu and the second menu is executed(S323). |
