The present invention relates to a method for authenticating a manufacturer for an IEEE 11073 agent, and more specifically, to a method for authenticating an agent with the aid of an authentication server operated by a manufacturer so as to prevent use of a pirated agent upon data transmission and reception between an agent and a manager based on the IEEE 11073 international standard. An agent authentication method according to the present invention comprises the following steps. An IEEE 11073 agent transmits an association request message including an identifier of the IEEE 11073 agent to an IEEE 11073 manager. The IEEE 11073 manager transmits the agent identifier included in the association request message to the agent authentication server in response to reception of the association request message. The IEEE 11073 manager receives authentication result information indicating an authentication result based on the agent identifier from the agent authentication server.
