A bearing unit (1) has an axis of rotation (A) and is provided with a stationary ring (10) and a rotatable ring (20) arranged coaxially with respect to one another. A magnetic encoder (30) is fixed onto the inner ring (20) and extends in front of an annular surface (11) of an axial lug (14') of the stationary ring (10). A protective cover (40) having a cylindrical side wall (42) is mounted on the outer surface of the axial lug (14') of the outer ring (10) so as to protect the encoder (30) and close off a space (3) defined between the two rings (10, 20). An annular channel (18, 18') is formed between the side wall (42) of the cover and the axial lug (14') of the stationary ring (10), sealing means (50) being arranged within the annular channel (18) so as to seal the cover (40) and prevent the infiltration of impurities between the cover (40) and the axial lug (14'). |
