Class 87(2) 'Relates to extrusion machines from which pellets are formed by covering material as it emerges from the extrusion end of a die, i.e. pellet mills, and comprises a die including compression and extrusion walls with a pattern of holes therethrough and spaced apart by wall means holding corresponding holes in alignment and defining a die chambers, a die hole insert in each pair of aligned holes and sealed to the compression end extrusion walls and means for casual abuting a cooling medium through the die chambers. A heavy compression wall 3 is spaced from an extension wall 5 by inner and outer cylinders 7, 9, forming a die chamber through which the die hole inserts 29 pass. Flanges 33 on these inserts fit into recesses 19 in the surface of the compression wall, preferably with slight protrusion, and the inserts 29 protrude beyond the extension wall 5 at which end they are slotted at 37 to enable their diameters to be adjusted, by the action of adjusting nuts 39 on the taper threaded ends of the inserts. The inserts 29 are preferably slightly flared internally from a point at substantially the lower surface of the wall 3 to the lower end, and their passages may have different cross-sectional shapes. The die is cooled by liquid which enters at 45 and leaves at 47 and is prevented from leaking by gaskets between the spacing walls and the compression wall and by sealing rings round the inserts where they pass through the walls. |
