A system (10) for optimising wireless data downloads is described. A file server (18), embodied as a booth located in a public space, comprises a data storage device (22) storing multimedia content and a wireless access point (36) wirelessly connecting the data storage device (22) to a wireless device , so that the wireless device may download selected content from the server. The wireless device includes an application whereby received signal strength is determined at several different locations, the signal strength data is processed and an indication (72, fig. 2, not shown) is displayed on the device of a direction towards the server, where greater signal strength will be obtained. The signal strength may be determined by the wireless device measuring the time taken to download a predetermined amount of content from the server. |
