Provided in the present invention are an X-ray imaging apparatus and a controlling method thereof, which can correct errors according to characteristics by pixels. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the X-ray imaging apparatus comprises: an X-ray generating unit which generates and irradiates X-rays; an X-ray detecting unit which detects the X-rays, and counts the number of photons with threshold energy or higher by pixels among photons included in the detected X-ray; a map generating unit which extracts corrected threshold energy corresponding to target threshold energy by pixels for mapping; and a data correcting unit which calculates corrected X-ray data corresponding to the corrected threshold energy by pixels, from multiple X-ray data obtained by inputting multiple approximate energy same as or equivalent to the target threshold energy as threshold energy of the X-ray detecting unit when photographing an object.
