PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal device able to reduce power consumption by reducing the frequency of unnecessary communication. SOLUTION: A position specifying device 11 of a portable terminal device 10 detects its own position at every predetermined period, and a communication device 12 transmits information about a position detected by the position specifying device 11. A position information storage device 13 stores, as history data, information about a predetermined number of positions immediately before the present period. A determination area setting section 14a sets a determination area according to the stored history data and a measured position error resulting from GPS estimated in advance. A position determining section 14b determines whether the detected position in the present period exists in the determination area or not. If the ratio that the position in the present period is determined to exist in the determination area is greater than a predetermined ratio, a status determining section 14c determines that the section itself is quiescent. Further, if the status determining section 14c determines that it is quiescent, the communication device 12 stops transmission of information about the position detected by the position specifying device 11.
