PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-soluble unsaturated carboxylic acid-based crosslinked polymer having thixotropic property, high viscosity and good clarifying property (transparency) and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The water-soluble unsaturated carboxylic acid-based crosslinked polymer has a crosslinked structure formed using a crosslinking agent (A) selected from a polyvalent vinyl ester, a polyvalent allyl ester and a polyvalent vinyl amide and a crosslinking agent (B) selected from a polyvalent vinyl ether, a polyvalent allyl ether and a polyvalent allyl isocyanurate. The method for producing the polymer includes polymerizing a monomer consisting mainly of a 3-5C olefinic unsaturated carboxylic acid or a salt thereof under coexistence of the crosslinking agents (A) and (B) in a water-soluble organic solvent with a radical polymerization initiator, and taking out the resulting polymer as water-soluble polymer powder.
