751,076. Centrifugal separators. STAMICARBON N.V. Aug. 20, 1954 [Aug. 26, 1953], No. 24369/54. Class 23. A hydro-cyclone for the concentration of a suspension of solid particles, or for the classification of solid particles suspended in a liquid, has siphons connected to both outlets. The arrangement tends to prevent variations in the consistency of the separated fractions in spite of fluctuations in the feed to the hydro-cyclone. The outlet ends of the siphons are adjustable for height, and may be so located that, when the feed comprises liquid only, all the material is discharged through the light fraction outlet. The hydro-cyclones 29 discharge into light and heavy fraction collection chambers 31, 32, the fractions being discharged by siphons 33, 35 having rubber parts 34, 36, the outlet ends of which may be raised or lowered. In a modification a hydro-cyclone, of the kind having a concentric light fraction collection chamber above the separation chamber, has depending pipes connected to the light fraction collection chamber and the heavy-fraction outlet, and discharging into open-topped vessels. The vessel collecting the heavy fraction may be supplied with liquid to prevent the heavy fraction discharge pipe sucking dry when all the material is discharged through the light fraction outlet. Dimensions of the apparatus are given in the Specification. Specifications 528,590, 601,063 and 661,169 are referred to.
|
