The invention relates to a method of making a composite, the method comprising: irradiating a fibrous material comprising a first cellulosic and/or lignocellulosic material to increase the molecular weight of the cellulosic and/or lignocellulosic material; and combining the cellulosic and/or lignocellulosic material with an additional material. The invention may be used to process biomass into a product selected from the group consisting of alcohols, organic acids, sugars, hydrocarbons and mixtures thereof. |
