a processing section configured to perform a predetermined process; a connecting section which is configured to connect with an external apparatus capable of performing the predetermined process through a communication network; a version information obtaining section configured to obtain a version of an algorithm used if the external apparatus performs the predetermined process; and a version comparing section configured to compare the version obtained by the version information obtaining section with a version of the algorithm used if the processing section performs the predetermined process, and to produce a comparison result; and a selecting section configured to select the processing section or the external apparatus connected through the connecting section as a request target to perform the predetermined process based at least in part on the comparison result.
