The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method to detect degradation of a surge protector. More specifically, the said invention relates to an apparatus and a method to detect degradation of a surge protector by which the surge protector is easily disconnected from a distribution cable in the surge protector when degradation is detected in the surge protector. The apparatus includes: a current detector which detects changes in the current and voltage flowing in a three-phase voltage line of the distribution cable; a degradation generation determiner which compares the changes in the current and voltage, which have been detected by the current detector, with a predetermined threshold and determines whether degradation has occurred in the surge protectors (SPD) connected to the three-phase voltage line; and a disconnector which disconnects at least one of the surge protectors from the three-phase voltage line in accordance to a determination result of the degradation generation determiner. |
