Determining outlier pixels of successive frames

Circuits, systems, and methods for processing outlier pixels include a spatial filter and a temporal filter. The spatial filter is configured to compute a pixel difference for each pixel as a function of a pixel value of the pixel and pixel values of nearby pixels within each frame. The spatial filter is configured to dynamically add the pixel to a candidate list when the pixel difference exceeds a threshold value. The temporal filter dynamically removes a pixel from the candidate list when there is a divergence of a pixel value of the pixel in successive frames. The temporal filter determines a pixel in the candidate list is an outlier pixel when there is no such divergence in the successive frames.

1. A circuit for processing outlier pixels, comprising:
a spatial filter configured to compute, for each pixel, a pixel difference as a function of a pixel value of the pixel and pixel values of a plurality of nearby pixels within each frame, and to dynamically add the pixel to a candidate list in response to the pixel difference exceeding a threshold value; and a temporal filter coupled to the spatial filter, wherein:
for each pixel in the candidate list, the temporal filter dynamically removes the pixel from the candidate list in response to a divergence of the pixel value of the pixel from values of the pixel in a plurality of successive frames; andfor each pixel in the candidate list, the temporal filter determines that the pixel is an outlier pixel in response to a lack of the divergence in the successive frames.
