Methods and systems for dynamically estimating the core temperature of at least one cell in a battery. In one aspect, the method includes using a combination of estimations including one based on ohmic resistance and another based on a function of thermal energy transfer through the battery. A weighting factor may be used for each of the estimations as a way to calculating a core temperature. The estimation based on ohmic resistance may be made determined independently of a measured surface temperature of the battery or any of the cells in the battery. |

1. A method for determining the core temperature of a battery comprising a plurality of cells, the method comprising:
performing a first estimation of said core temperature wherein said first estimation is independent of the surface temperature of said battery; performing a second estimation of said core temperature as a function of thermal energy transfer through said battery; applying a weighting factor to each of said first and second estimations; and calculating a core temperature as a function of said weighted first and second estimations wherein said calculating a core temperature as a function of said weighted first and second estimations is performed in accordance with the following relationship:
Tcore=(1−w)T1+wT2 wherein Tcore is said calculated core temperature, w is said weighting factor, T1 is said first estimation and T2 is said second estimation. |
