A vertical light emitting diode by the present invention includes a first conductive clad layer having a trench within an upper surface, a second conductive clad layer formed on the lower part of the first conductive clad layer, an active layer formed between the first conductive clad layer and the second conductive clad layer and spaced apart from the trench, an upper electrode formed by filling the trench, and a lower electrode electrically connected to the lower part of the second conductive clad layer.
