PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device and a projector that are able to achieve a size reduction.SOLUTION: In a light emitting element 100, a gain area 180 is provided in a straight line from the first end part 140 of a first side face 107 to the second end part 142 of a second side face 109 in a predetermined direction inclining to a perpendicular P of the first end part 140, in a plan view from the lamination direction of the active layers 108. The second end part 142 of the second side face 109 is orthogonal to the predetermined direction in a plan view from the lamination direction of the active layers 108. The second end part 142 of the second side face 109 is provided with a reflecting part 150. Some of light generated in the gain area 180 is reflected in the second end part 142 of the second side face 109, and is emitted from the first end part 140 of the first side face 107. |
