According to one aspect of the present invention, a system to manage electric power capable of reducing a peak load includes: an information collecting unit to collect information about an electric charge per time power consumption; a first charging/discharging control unit to control a battery energy storage system (BESS) by selecting one charging mode whereby the BESS is charged with power supplied from a power system using the information about the electric charge per time, a discharging mode whereby the power charged in the BESS is discharged to a load, and a standby mode; a power discharging amount calculating unit to calculate an amount of discharged electric power using the information about the power consumption and a peak reducing rate requested from a consumer when the discharging mode is selected by the first charging/discharging control unit; and a suitable capacity determining unit to determine a suitable capacity of the BESS using at least one of the calculated amount of discharged electric power and the information about the power consumption. |
