PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protection element which improves the rating capacity of a soluble conductor and enables quick fusion of the soluble conductor.SOLUTION: A protection element includes: an insulation substrate 11; a heating resistor 14 formed on the insulation substrate 11; an insulation member 15 covering the heating resistor 14; first and second electrodes 12 laminated on the insulation substrate 11; a heating element extraction electrode 16 which is laminated on the insulation member 15 so as to overlap with the heating resistor 14, and electrically connected to the heating resistor 14 on a current path between the first and second electrodes 12; a soluble conductor 13 which is laminated across the heating element extraction electrode 16 to the first and second electrodes 12 and fuses the current path between the first and second electrodes with heat; and a cover member for covering the insulation substrate 11. In the soluble conductor 13, a central part 13a overlapping with the heating element extraction electrode 16 is formed thicker than fusion parts 13b between the heating element extraction electrode 16 and the first and second electrodes.
