<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a vehicle periphery monitoring device and a vehicle periphery monitoring method which are capable of more accurately detecting an obstacle by avoiding an influence of noise due to reflected radio waves from roadside objects when detecting the obstacle by combination of a radar device and a camera device.SOLUTION: The vehicle periphery monitoring device includes a radar device (1) and a camera device (2) for detecting an obstacle ahead of a vehicle and an obstacle detector (3) for performing integrated analysis of obstacle detection information from the radar device and the camera device. The vehicle periphery monitoring device calculates an area in which obstacle detection using the radar device is estimated to be difficult, as a difficult-radio wave detection area in accordance with detection states of roadside objects based on roadside object information and, if an obstacle is within the difficult-radio wave detection area, generates final obstacle information by using the camera device and, if an obstacle is on the outside of the difficult-radio wave detection area, generates the final obstacle information by combination of the radar device and the camera device.</p> |
