756,741. Centrifugal separators. MURRAY, A. R., and COLEMAN-WALLWORK CO., Ltd. July 1, 1954 [July 1, 1953], No. 18270/53. Class 23. [Also in Group XIII] A separator, particularly for removing oil and water particles from compressed air, consists of an upright cylindrical casing 1 closed by caps 4, 5 and provided with radial inlet and outlet connections 2, 3 isolated from each other by an obliquely disposed washer 12 from which a coaxial tube 10 extends downwardly into the casing for about two thirds of the length of the latter, the lower end of the tube being cut off obliquely or bevelled as shown at 17. The inlet 2 has a perforated plate throttling device 8 through which the gasliquid mixture flows to expand in the annular space 15 between the tube and casing, the drop in velocity causing the particles to deposit on the tube 10 and on the casing, the liquid draining into cap 5 whence it is withdrawn through a cock 7. The clean gas flows up through the tube 10 to the outlet 3. To assist the deposition of the liquid particles a helical flow guide 20 may be provided on the tube 10 to impart a spinning motion to the gas-liquid mixture. Specification 573,603 [Group III] is referred to. |
