PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power source device and an image forming apparatus capable of exhibiting high power-saving effect, while supplying sufficient power to a load irrespective of a variation in current consumption in the load supplied with power in a power-saving mode.SOLUTION: In a compound machine X, when conditions to shift from a normal operation mode to a power-saving mode are established, a power source control unit 62 measures current consumption of an NIC 42 attached to the compound machine X (S13), and performs comparison and determination processing as to whether or not the current consumption is equal to or less than output current capacity of an S-converter 63B (S14). When the current consumption is equal to or less than the output current capacity of the S-converter 63B, the compound machine X shifts to a first power-saving mode in which power is supplied only to the NIC 42 from the S-converter 63B, and operates in the first power-saving mode.
